Strange things happen Rewrite

If someone tells you something unusual and weird, it is hard to believe so you just block it out of your mind. Your mind rejects the strange though. You doubt the truth. The same thing happens all of the time in life. People tell you something but if it not normal or not in their character you think they are lying.

This is a specific example of the affects of doubt and distrust from your parents. My friend named Lauren told me this story and I thought it is a great one to make an example of.
One night my friend, Lauren, went to a wild party that had drinking. But before she went she asked for permission from her parents. Lauren told them all of the detail and even told them there was going to be alcohol at the party. Lauren's parents let her go and just gave a curfew. She left for the party and got there and start dancing and saying Hi to all of her friends. At the party Lauren was having a good time just having fun, then her friend asks her if you want a drink and she said yes. Her friend came back and handed Lauren a cup. She took a huge sip from the cup and handed the cup back to him. Lauren told him she thought he meant water or something else and that she is not into that type of thing. He immediately understood and gave the drink to someone else. After that incident, she started dancing, mingling, and having a good time without alcohol. When Lauren got home, her parents started questioning her immediately. They asked her if she drank and she said no but they still persist on making sure. Lauren started to feel her parents didn't believe and trust enough in her to be able to make the right choice in a tough situation. These feelings lead to Lauren and her parents not being able to talk or communicate well. Lauren thought if she talked to them about how she said no, her parents would not doubt her. The distrust her parents showed to her, hit Lauren the hardest. She thought, "how could they not believe me?" and then she thought from there perspective and tried to understand where coming from.

Even with some understanding because of doubt and distrust any relationship can be destroyed or hurt. And this hurt in your relationship can last a long time and have affects on everyone around you. Try to remember this the next time someone is trying to tell you some thing important to them and you don't believe them: once you don't trust and believe in someone it is very hard to build a relationship with them or even keep a relationship.

I like your specific example with your parents because I can picture it more clearly than the vague example of a secret. Secrets aren't very fun to read about unless you get to know the secret.

How would it change your paper if you used "I" instead of "you" in the party example?

“Our relationships took a turn for the worst and it was all because my friends doubt and distrust in me.”
Is friendships problems the only way to describe ruins?
